It was clichéd to say ‘2016 has been fucking, shite’ before we’d even hit Autumn. While there’s no smoke without fire, it wasn’t all bad for us. As we strengthened our ever growing mix series we also launched our first release, a compilation of original productions from artists we’ve met along the way (https://weareminder.bandcamp.com/). Then with the help of our guest Sparky we began a new chapter in what we hope to be a long and spirited time at The Mash House.
Our first guest of 2017 is Laurence Guy. Having been brought to our attention through early support from Move D, for his debut release on Church. Laurence went on to pepper 2016 with many warm and nostalgic, funky, soulful house, breaks and jams. His productions appear to contain samples you’d sooner associated with a hip-hop, crate digger than dance floor filler and given his latest appearances on Boiler Room and Rinse FM the term ‘digger’ is definitely fitting.
Over the past few years DJ’s such as Jeremy Underground and Motor City Drum Ensemble have helped to highlight a certain type of DJing style where rare gems and quick blends are favoured over the Beatport top ten and effect ridden mixes. Laurence exemplifies this style with selections that are love filled and familiar.
As usual be sure to check out Minder DJ’s TOCS and Mr Fudson on the warm up for their own special blend of obscure and fantastical heaters.
